So many projects, so little time…

12.11.2011 by Starla Huchton // Leave a Comment

It has occurred to me of late that it’s been awhile since I’ve posted on the blog. So I looked tonight and realized it’s been nearly THREE MONTHS since my last posting. Uh… oops.

Things have been quite crazy around here. I’ve been neck deep in the final semester of my Graphic Design degree and it hasn’t left much room for anything else. What little time I do have, has been filled with all the creative projects I can possibly cram into it. This post is a little glimpse into the sort of things I’ve been doing.

“From Paris, With Regret”, The Facts in the Fiction

09.13.2011 by Starla Huchton // 4 Comments

From Paris, With Regret cover

I realize that most people have no interest in French history. Generally, I’m one of them. For my Tales from the Archives story, however, I found myself sucked into a black hole of research for this piece and I thought perhaps I would share a few links with all of you. These are all pieces of the story. If you’re interested in the facts behind my fiction, I encourage you do a little light reading. :)

Enter the Dragon*Con: Part 2 (Electric Boogaloo)

09.06.2011 by Starla Huchton // 3 Comments

Part 2 of the Dragon*Con wrap up post.

If you saw my Twitter feed on Sunday night, you might have noticed the copious amounts of expletives and unexplained freaking out coming from me. I wasn’t in a position to invite the whole world, so I was restricted to random tweets of SQUEE.

We were people watching before heading to the “Get Pissed With The FDO” event, when we came across Alex White. He immediately instructed us to report to his room, where an unnamed big name was holding court.

I love Alex White.

Enter the Dragon*Con: Part 1

09.06.2011 by Starla Huchton // 2 Comments

Due to the length of this post (far too awesome to be contained in one), this post will be split into two. Behold, part the first!

So this year’s Dragon*Con was… Different.

After hearing my stories from last year, two of my friends decided to give the con thing a shot and come along with us. I was a little nervous that they might be let down. After all, every con is different, and last year’s D*C set the fun standard pretty high.

The result?

I’m still trying to decide where to begin. Each night got exponentially more awesome, so perhaps I’ll only give you the highlights.

Balticon 45 Wrap-Up

06.01.2011 by Starla Huchton // Leave a Comment

Last year, I thought it would never be harder to write a post-con post.

And then this year had to go and decimate that conclusion.

Last year was a year of firsts. First panels, first meetings, first exposure to “fans”…

Perhaps I should just dub Balticon the “con of firsts”, because this year was full of firsts also. The big first here being the live reading. More on that in a moment.

Cover Art Reveal!

04.18.2011 by Starla Huchton // 1 Comment

I’m such a spaz. In catching up on all the things I’ve forgotten to update, I realized I never posted about my cover art project for Antigone’s Wrath. In fact, I may have forgotten to mention it altogether on this site. So, I am remedying that now.

On Sequels and Masochism

In a fit of impulse, I did the thing I swore I was not going to do until edits for Antigone’s Wrath were complete.

I started its sequel.

My Favorite Two Words

03.17.2011 by Starla Huchton // Leave a Comment

THE END.

Is there anything as beautiful as typing THE END after a year and a half long battle with a novel?

Newborn babies and stuff aside, there’s no feeling in the world like being able to tack on those two little words to a massive project. It’s elation, fulfillment, sadness, and empowerment all rolled up into a little ball of OMGWTFBBQ AWESOME. No matter how many times you earn the right to write it, it will never cease to feel good.

So, it is with that preface that I announce to you all that as of midnight, March 17th (Happy St. Patty’s Day, BTW), ANTIGONE’S WRATH IS IN POSSESSION OF A “THE END” OF ITS OWN.

A New Adventure

02.09.2011 by Starla Huchton // 1 Comment

You may or may not have born witness to my Twitter angsting over the last week. A big project was unveiled recently, of which I’m involved, and I’ve been battling with words to complete my part.

First, the project. What was it? Best answer: here.

My answer: Shortly after the New Year (can you believe I kept a lid on it for THAT LONG?), I received an email inviting me to participate in a short story anthology podcast that would lead up to the release of Tee Morris and Philippa Ballantine’s Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences: Phoenix Rising. Honestly, I was rather speechless when I first saw the invite. Then, I became excited. That excitement then turned to dismay as I had yet to finish Antigone’s Wrath and had planned on devoting all my time to that. After a sound self-kicking, I realized I’d be an absolute idiot to pass up a chance like this. So, I accepted. And then, the terror began.
